Project:

Transend IT&C Support & Development Review

 Service:

 Strategic Advisory

 Location:

 Tasmania

 Client:

 Transend Networks Pty Ltd

 Year:

 2009

Overview

Transend is the Transmission Network Service Provider for the State of Tasmania, Australia.

PSC was commissioned by Transend in late 2009 to carry out a review of its IT&C Support and Development Strategy. The intention of this review was to develop a strategy that would enable Transend to position itself for the next five years of changes in IT&C technology.

This was considered especially important given the potential impacts of new convergent technologies like IEC 61850 which cut across traditional engineering and IT disciplines.

Project Outline

PSC’s scope of work was as follows:

  1. Review Transend’s existing IT&C strategy.
  2. Work closely with the executive management team who were part of the IT&C Steering Committee to develop an IT&C Support and Development Strategy.
  3. Conduct a technology futures workshop to enable Transend to identify upcoming technology trends that would impact on its business.
  4. Consult with key stakeholders to determine a preferred strategy for IT&C support and development within Transend.
  5. Synthesise the outputs of the consultation with PSC’s knowledge of electricity supply industry best practice for IT&C management and Transend’s unique business requirements to develop a preferred IT&C Support and Development Model.
  6. Prepare a report outlining the preferred IT&C Support and Development Strategy to the Managing Director for approval.

The deliverable was a report outlining a preferred IT&C strategy and options for support and development that met Transend’s business requirements.

Outcome

The review was successfully completed and the report approved by the Managing Director for implementation. The implementation has proceeded successfully with PSC available to provide additional strategic advice as required.
